Phew! I tried getting online

Phew! I tried getting online at the Napa Public Library this morning but they don't let people hook laptops up to their network... They directed me to the Napa Kinko's, where I'm jacked in right now. I just finished uploading pictures (@ 30 k/s) and this afternoon we'll be tasting some wines.

7/24/2001, 22:06

I'm typing this by the pool at Cedar Lodge near Yosemite; there's no power in the whole complex except for the restaurant in the building behind me. And my iBook's battery is drained; I'm plugged into the wall. Supposedly there's a huge fire going on just past the Lodge on Route 140 West that has interfered with power lines. And the Lodge charges for local calls (feels like Europe!), so I don't know when I'll get to upload this.

Today was amazing- that it was my and Grandpa's birthday is beside the point. Mom, Jack, Natalie and I hiked in Yosemite National Park for about 7 hours; it started as a 1-2 hour hike to Vernal Falls that turned into a long, steep, thirsty hike up to the top of Nevada Falls. The scenery was stunning; the pictures nobly attempt to do it justice...

My new Canon s300 Elph did, however, do a wonderful job. I love the improved zoom, and I got to use its a/v feature to capture a short clip of Vernal Falls. I just wish Quicktime could play it... Uggh.

The Man just moved me inside the Diner; they're locking up the pool. Ahh, the smell of greasy late-night food... Another Uggh. At least I have iTunes cranking out some Neal Young. :)

22:40

It turns out that Mom, Jack and Natalie were at the bar around the corner. Before going to bed, they got me a Black & Tan, mixed from local brewery beers. I should sleep well tonight...

23:00

Heh- they just killed the lights in the Diner (and turned on "The Calling" from Santana's Supernatural album), but luckily I have my trusty Kensington FlyLight handy... Thanks, Guy!

http://www.thedaythatcounts.org: "We protest the use of public funds in order to finance religion-based social programs, or pay for the operation, maintenance or repair of churches and other houses of worship. No American, including those 27 million who profess no belief in deities or religious creeds, should be compelled through taxation to finance in any way, shape or form ANY religious teaching, ceremony or program. We oppose the new federal faith-based initiative as a violation of the Establishment Clause of the U.S. Constitution. This program levies a Religion Tax on the citizens of this country, and clearly violates the separation of church and state."

Carlsberg Special Brew: I had

Carlsberg Special Brew: I had one of these when I was in Copenhagen and it was, by far, one of the best beers I've ever had...
